Dr Vishwa Bhartiya

(MBBS, FRACGP)

Dr Bhartiya is originally from India and completed his medical education in Kanpur, India.

He completed his Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBBS) degree in 1985 and his post-graduate in Doctor of Medicine (M.D) in 1991.

Dr Bhartiya practiced as a consultant in internal medicine with a special interest in heart diseases, diabetes, and kidney problems. He was attached to the Private Hospital and supervised the dialysis unit for 15 years.

He moved to Mackay in 2006 and has been practicing at Slade Point Medical Centre since then.

He became Medical Director and Owner of the surgery and is a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP).

Dr Bhartiya is currently:

  • An examiner of fellowship exams and MBBS exams
  • On the interview board in the past for selection of medical students/registrars
  • Supervises and trains 5th year medical students /overseas trained doctors and registrars through James Cook University/GMT

He has a special interest in Chronic Diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, and kidney disease, and also the field of Aboriginal health and general family health.

Dr Murshed Khan

(MBBS, FRACGP)

Dr Murshed Khan is originally from Bangladesh and has spent some time in New Zealand before coming to Mackay. He has been with the clinic since 2008.

Dr Khan is a very busy doctor who also has a very loyal patient base with all ages (and the kids love him for his lollies and chocolates).

Dr Khan’s special interest is emergency procedures, minor skin lesion procedures and general health of all ages and gender.

Dr Malinda Leary

(MBBS, FRACGP)

Dr Malinda Leary has been part of Slade Point Medical Centre since 2017 and is a well-known and respected General Practitioner.

Dr Leary has a very loyal patient base and has a special interest in women’s, men’s, and children’s health.

Dr Leary trains and teaches Medical Students she also supervises registrars through JCU and is an RACGP examiner and educator.

Dr Ross McKenzie

(MBBS, FRACGP) 

Dr Ross McKenzie is originally born in Australia but has spent some time over in Cambodia. He has been with the clinic since 2018 while in training and has since become a Fellow with us. He is a well-respected and busy General Practitioner.

Dr Mc Kenzie has an interest in general health for all ages and minor procedures for skin lesions.

Dr Mandeep Mahal

(MBBS)

Dr Mandeep Mahal is originally from India and has spent some time in Canada before coming to Mackay. She has been with our clinic since January 2020.

Dr Mahal has more than 10 years’ experience in General Practice with a special interest in Women’s Health and Chronic Disease Management.

Dr Mahal loves to travel and loves spending time with her family.

Dr Kirandeep

(MBBS) 

Dr Kirandeep has recently joined us from India where she worked and has got over 7 years’ experience in General Practice. Dr Kirandeep has a special interest in women’s health. Dr Kirandeep likes to spend her time working and with her family.

Dr Htet Aung Kyaw

(MBBS)

Dr Htet has completed his MBBS in Myanmar in 2009. He has worked at various hospitals and GP clinics in Myanmar for 10 years before coming to Australia.

Dr Htet has also worked at the Mackay Base Hospital for four years before joint the GP training pathway.

Dr Htet has a special interest in all general medicine  and he loves in his free time to travel and eat at many different restaurants.

Dr Zayar Aung

(MBBS) 

Dr Zayar grew up in Myanmar (Burma) and completed his medical training (MBBS) in Myanmar.

He came to Mackay in 2018 from Myanmar and had worked in different specialties at the Mackay Base Hospital before joining GP training.

Zayar enjoys all aspects of General Practice and his special interests include Family medicine, Chronic disease management, Paediatrics and Preventive Medicine. Outside of working hours Zayar enjoys spending time with his family and friends, travelling, reading and watching soccer.

Ann Walker

Mental Health Nurse

“Hi I’m Ann, a Credentialled Mental Health Nurse at Slade Point Medical Centre offering assessments, counselling and case management services for individuals referred through the ‘Mental Health Integrated Complex Care’ program – an initiative funded by the North Queensland Primary Health Network (NQPHN).

I am originally from the UK where I worked as Registered Nurse for Intellectual Impairment (RNLD) in both community and inpatient settings before migrating to Australia and the Mackay region over 12 years ago, where I retrained as a Registered Mental Health Nurse.

I have worked in QLD Government Disability Services and Mental Health Services for 11 years before moving into my current role in 2021.”
